New this week: SPQR Modern Italian Food and Wine

spqr cover
This week, SPQR Modern Italian Food and Wine hits bookstore shelves. (Look for it at local places like Omnivore Books in Noe Valley and Book Passage in the Ferry Building and other spots around the Bay Area.)

The book, a cook-wine-travel book shaped around Italy’s ancient Roman Roads, has been mentioned quite a few times on this site, and for good reason: The project absorbed most of my life last year. (I wrote it with coauthors Shelley Lindgren and Matthew Accarrino.)

how to get in on the fun:

Wednesday, October 17th @ 6PM: Stop by the Williams-Sonoma store on Union Square in San Francisco for a book signing and a cooking demonstration.

Saturday, October 27 @ 3PM: Attend a signing and reading at Omnivore Books in SF’s Noe Valley neighborhood.

Sunday, October 28 @12:30: Join Shelley and Matthew at sister restaurant A16 for a special  lunch centered around the new book put on in conjunction with Book Passage.

Anytime: Read this Grubstreet Q&A with Matthew about how the recipes came together with the wine. Or check out this blog post by journalist Carolyn Jung, who writes about making Matthew’s smoked linguine.

  • Thanks for the shout-out. It was a fun experience making the smoked pasta with clams and pesto from the cookbook. Can’t wait to cook more delicious recipes from it. ;)

  • Yay, Kate! Congrats!!!

  • I’m so glad that you have the smoked pasta a chance — and if you start to use smoked pasta for other recipes, I’d love to hear about it. Thanks, Carolyn!
